In 1984, Ron Barr commenced employment with the Riverstone Neighbourhood Centre as a Youth Development Counsellor. As part of his duties, he visited Riverstone High School three days a week to counsel students with behavioural and emotional problems.
The students he spoke with prompted him to establish a program which utilised the experience of young people in situations where one to one counselling failed.
Youth Insearch was conceived in 1985. Over 27,000 young people have been through the program from all over Australia, finding a new, positive direction in their lives.
The Youth Insearch Foundation (Aust) Inc. is a national Organisation with projects throughout New South Wales, Queensland and Tasmania.
Previous to this, Ron held the position of National Training and Development Manager with a large food manufacturing company.
Many of the positions that Ron has held throughout his life have been associated with the area of personnel.
As a young man, Ron was Boarding Master at Newington College Stanmore.
He received the Order of Australia Medal on Australia Day 1995 for services to youth especially as Founder of Youth Insearch. Ron and his wife Judith also received the Rotary Club of Sydney Community Services Award in 1992. In 1998 Ron received a Community Services Award from Rotary Club of Kellyville and Club Speranza’s “A feeling for life” Award.
Ron was further honoured in 2007 becoming a member of the Order of Australia (AM).
Ron and Judith live on 27 acres at Sackville North (near Wiseman’s Ferry NSW). They have three grown up children, Leighton, Justin and Frith and six grandchildren.
